The integrity of sewer and water infrastructure starts at the surface—often with the manhole. At A&A Equipment and Supply, we’re proud to stay at the forefront of inspection standards and rehabilitation technologies. Our recent completion of the Inspector Training Certification Program for Manhole Rehabilitation (ITCP-MR) by NASSCO reinforces our commitment to helping contractors across Illinois do the job right—every time.
This nationally recognized training provides in-depth instruction on how to inspect, prepare, and evaluate manholes for proper rehabilitation, with a focus on quality control and long-term durability.
What the Program Covers
Manhole Defect Identification
The manual outlines common defects in seven manhole components: frame, chimney, cone, wall, bench, channel, and pipe connections. Using MACP coding standards, inspectors are trained to identify structural, maintenance, and construction-related issues like infiltration, corrosion, missing mortar, and misaligned frames.
Preparation and Surface Cleaning
Proper rehab starts with preparation. The training emphasizes critical steps:
Cleaning and profiling surfaces
Removing debris, grease, and root intrusion
Managing flow control and confined space entry
Testing moisture levels and surface pH
Failing to prep correctly can cause even the best materials to fail prematurely.
Rehabilitation Technologies
The course dives deep into both traditional and trenchless methods:
Cementitious and polymeric coatings
Spin-cast and spray-on linings
Injection grouting and sealants
Cured-in-place manhole (CIPM) liners
Drop connection repairs and chimney seals
Every technique is backed by specifications, inspection steps, and failure modes inspectors must understand.
Replacement Methods
When rehab isn't enough, the manual provides guidance on replacement methods, including panel liners, poured-in-place concrete, and frame adjustments. These decisions require site-specific evaluation and cost-benefit analysis.
Inspector Responsibilities
A core section trains inspectors to act as the owner’s representative, enforcing specifications, verifying materials, ensuring safety plans, and documenting every phase of the job. It also outlines key QA/QC tests: adhesion, vacuum, gel-time, and holiday testing.
Why This Matters to Contractors
For Illinois sewer and water contractors, this certification enables A&A Equipment and Supply to:
Help evaluate manhole conditions on job sites
Provide guidance on compatible coatings and rehab methods
Recommend prep techniques that reduce failure risk
Ensure materials meet NASSCO’s technical standards
Stock and supply the right adjustment rings, rehab coatings, and repair equipment
We don't just sell materials—we support better outcomes.
